THE STATEMENT OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF THE RUSSIAN
FEDERATION On situation in the South Ossetia
The Supreme Council of the Russian Federation declares that the
measures on cease-fire in the South Ossetia did not bring about
real results. The war in the South Ossetia every day causes human casualties
and poses serious threat of destabilization of the situation in the Northern
Ossetia and in the entire Caucasus.
The Supreme Council of the Russian Federation demands that the
agreement on the ceasefire, signed by the leadership of Georgia and the leadership
of the Northern Ossetia, be correctly observed by the both sides. The armed
groups, disobeying the conditions of this agreement, should be viewed as
criminals, which must be treated in compliance with the norms of the
International and National Law.
The Supreme Council of the Russian Federation approves the
measures, taken by the President and the Government of the Russian Federation for protection of
the peaceful population, restoration of the public order and settlement of the
conflict.
The Supreme Council of the Russian Federation
proposes to start work of the of the Joint Commission with participation of the
Russian Federation, Georgia and the South Ossetia to elaborate coordinated
activities, directed towards normalization of the situation in the South
Caucasus.
The Supreme Council of the Russian Federation assigns to the
Government of the Russian Federation to inform the
Security Council of the UNO, Governments of the CIS countries and of the other
states, the International Community on the measures of protection of peaceful
population and provision of security of the southern borders of the Russian Federation.
